Understanding Kids' Online Activities

Updated: Dec 27, 2019

With technology being popular items on children's wish lists for Christmas and the school holidays being very long at this time of year, it stands to reason that many children will be spending more time on devices and games over the coming weeks. These means they could be exploring new apps and games, including those with more interactive components. Although there is an increasing awareness of the dangers of technology and internet such as online bullying and kids coming into contact with people who lie about who they are, as a parent it can be very difficult to understand how these things work and to keep up to date with new apps when they come out making it hard to know how to keep our children and young people safe online. The Carly Ryan Foundation have put together some neat little summaries on some of the most popular games or apps that young people are using. It takes the guess work out of it by explaining things such as what the game or app does, how many people they can connect with and how, possible concerns with the platform, how to use features of the platform to deal with unwanted or unfriendly interactions, how to use privacy settings or even how to delete the account.

The app info sheets created by the Carly Ryan Foundation are viewable on their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/pg/TheCarlyRyanFoundation/photos/?tab=album&album_id=10157505685417235&ref=page_internal
