Anxiety

When we are faced with a situation that threatens our survival or well being our bodies natural survival mode kicks in and our body and brain responds to the Adrenalin that starts pumping through our system. Whilst this process is designed to keep us safe the system can be over reactive and be activated by situations that are misinterpreted as threatening. For children who are being exposed to new things all the time as they grow up and experience the world, they may find they themselves reacting quickly and more intensely to these new situations than they need to and they may have difficulty getting their feelings under control.

If your child is anxious you may notice they are overly clingy, don’t want to go to school, always see the danger or negatives in a situation, or they may cry over small things and prefer to watch other children rather than have a go at something themselves. Some will often ask you to do things for them.

Counselling sessions can help increase your child’s confidence and self-esteem and teach your child healthy coping strategies and skills to manage their anxiety, so it doesn’t get in the way of enjoying life.
